Senior Studio device to document aspects of Flamengo Park, Rio de Janeiro, Brazil. 2013
Called to construct a device that redesigned or re-envisioned Roberto Burle-Marx's Flamengo Park in Rio de Janeiro, Brazil, I turned to weaving to document individual experiences of the park. Using a hand-loom, I wove various representations of the park that illustrated certain specific aspects of the park, including the diverse athletic program, the speed of the pedestrian as something tethered to the momentum of the highways that define the park, and the trajectory of the individual within the larger context of the crowd. The loom and weavings attempt to introduce a measured and hand-crafted element to the occasional hyperactivity of the park at large.
